This thing sounds fantastic. Period. Easy build and has an incredible array of sounds.
I made a slight modification – I initially used 3mm red LEDs, but those didn’t seem bright enough, since the output volume was still lower than unity even with it maxed. This was without light shields – so then I tried a few light shields – half of a black heat shrink tube, then white paper, then aluminum foil – and still couldn’t quite get the balance I wanted. Either it was plenty loud, but too glassy on the treble or boomy on the bass; or had a wonderfully balanced tone, but wouldn’t get loud enough.
So FINALLY I found the sweet spot (IMHO) – 5mm diffused red LEDs, with white masking tape covering the bare metal on the back plate. It’s PERFECT. The extra size of the LEDs boosts the volume a bit (by minimizing the resistance in the LDRs), while the masking tape helps prevent the reflection of the LED in the back plate from making it too loud.
The volume gets just loud enough to achieve ~unity at the highest depth, and the tone has a wonderfully soft and vocal quality about it. This seriously gives the Photon Vibe a run for its money, and that thing is also an incredible pedal.

Very fun build, and a great sound! I really appreciate having the high pass and low pass LDRs labeled on the PCB. At first I had some high end loss, but it was easy enough to resolve by just moving the HPF LDR closer to its LED.
One thing I would recommend is to use an audio taper for the volume pot instead of the linear taper one listed in the build docs. Otherwise unity seems to be around 9 o’clock.

This is a great design, nice sounding pedal. I used the A50K for the volume, and it is unity at about 10:00 o’clock. I used 3mm diffused red LED’s that are rated at 1200mcd. The volume/depth seems very reasonable. I made folded cardstock light shields to block reflected light from the other side, just wedged in the enclosure, and it made a very noticeable difference, increased the depth quite a bit. The big modification was I swapped the 6n8 cap on the HPF for a 22n, bringing the HPF down to 600 Hz. A lot less swoosh, but no mid-scoop. mostly transparent, very little change of overall tone (none, really). It sounds best in my chain after my OD, and Rat, and before the delay. I really like it a lot more than a regular tremolo. The range of speeds is perfect. The depth doesn’t really kick in until about 50%, but has more than enough depth at full.
